The Oyo State Government has demolished a residential property in Ibadan allegedly used for the storage of a large cache of arms and ammunition, as part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and kidnapping in the state.
The property, comprising a storey building and two bungalows within a fenced compound, is located in the Gbenku area along Arubiewe Road, off Olodo Garage, Ibadan.
Speaking at the demolition site, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Hon. Mojeed Mogbonjubola, said security operatives discovered the suspected weapons cache during an ongoing investigation.
According to the commissioner, the action underscores the state government’s determination to rid Oyo State of criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents.
Meanwhile, the demolition has sparked mixed reactions among members of the public. Some residents questioned the decision to destroy the buildings, arguing that such properties could have been repurposed for public use, including schools, hospitals, offices, or housing.
One commenter asked, “Why destroy valuable assets when they can still serve the people?”
The state government has yet to respond to concerns raised over the demolition.
